Week Three

By far my favorite printing method so far, linocut. I have had some experience with this method before and so was interested in furthering my understanding. Within the session i had learnt how alterations in mark making can give completely different results, this can be seen in the thin scratches used to create the gorillas hair in contrast to the deep cuts used to create the outline of the figure.

It took a few prints to get to the point of creating the right image, once i was at a stage where i was happy with the design i started to play with color. Some other students had tackled this in a different way that wouldn't have dawned on my imagination so i was very interested to explore these methods at a later date. Myself, i took a blank piece of linocut and printed a solid block of color that acts as a filler for the image. I then become interested in printing multiples as to create a different image, to do this i cut out the outline of the gorilla and printed the image alongside another so as to create a montage.

Linocut lends itself well to my interests in imagery so i would like to continue to use this method later on in the project.
